Due to some tremendous changes in your baby,like organ development,fat deposition,muscle formation etc.,sixth month of pregnancy is going to be very much specific and interesting for both mother and baby.Baby’s weight and height will be much increased than the previous month.Sixth month of pregnancy includes 21st-24th week of pregnancy.This article is going to include symptoms,growth of baby and some tips for sixth month of pregnancy.
GROWTH OF BABY
Baby’s length during 6th month will be approx 35 cm(14 inches) and weight will be approx 760 gms.
Till now,baby’s eyes were fully developed but closed.But now,your baby can open and shut his eyes properly with all his eye movements.
Your baby starts getting support of his spinal cord which contains 150 joints,1000 ligaments and 33 rings.
Your child can hear and understand outside music and noise,and also react to it.
Eyebrows and eyelashes of your baby will get developed during this month.
Taste buds of your baby through which he will be able to recognize different tastes like sweet,sour,bitter etc. are getting developed now.
Skin colour of baby earlier was of red transparent colour,through which veins of baby could be easily seen.But now due to fat deposition,skin will become of skin colour during this month.
Baby starts developing WBC’s to fight against diseases.
SYMPTOMS/PHYSICAL CHANGES IN MOTHER’S BODY
One of the major change till sixth month of pregnancy includes the increase in weight of mother.There will be 6-7 kgs increase in weight of mother till now,and further with every week,there will be an increase of half grams per week.This month weight increase will be of 1.5-2.5 kgs.This increament of weight depends upon your pre pregnancy weight,if you were a healthy fatty person before pregnancy,your weight might increase less,but if you were skinny and thin person,your weight will increase more.
Swelling-Due to increased blood circulation in mother’s body,you may experience swelling in your feet which is very common.This problem may continue till rest of your pregnancy.
Snoring-Because of the contraction of tissue between neck and head,snoring may occur in pregnant women.
With the increasing size of uterus,you may have itching on your lower abdomen,which is due to stretch marks,caused due to stretching of ligaments.Also,you may have itching in your whole body at this time.This can be because of hormonal changes due to pregnancy,dryness of skin,stretching of skin etc.This can be cured by proper moisturisation of skin and by wearing comfortable cotton clothes.Try to take bath before sleeping at night and apply moisturizer or almond oil overall your skin,which will induce you with good sleep and avoid itching sensation in your whole body.Moisturising and massage will remove dryness of skin and also prevent scars.
Minor contractions or abdominal cramps may be experienced by the would be mother called BRAXTON HICKS CONTRACTION through which body gets prepared for delivering the baby.Basically,the uterus of mother prepares itself for the delivery.The pain may remain from few seconds till 1 minute.But if the pain lasts long,you may consult your doctor.
Due to increasing weight and growth of baby,you can have backache,so to avoid this,remember to keep your body posture correct while sitting and sleeping.Also,avoid standing for long time.
Cramps in legs and hand may occur which is very much common.For this,you should massage your legs and hands to get relieved.
Sleeplessness-Because of the hormonal changes,would be mother may experience sleeplessness.To avoid this,you can do meditation and deep breathing exercises.
Frequent urination-As the uterus gets bigger in size,it puts pressure on urinary bladder,which leads to frequent urination.It should not be taken as a problem as it gets solved after the delivery.
Clinking or tingling sensation-As the blood flow increases in sixth month,mother’s may experience clinking sensation in their hands and legs.
WHAT TO EAT AND DO?
Sixth month of pregnancy is a crucial one as during this month,baby’s growth is tremendous.Any type of carelessness may lead to pre mature delivery or harm your baby.So,taking proper care and having a proper nutritional diet is must.A proper diet includes proper amount of protein,calcium,carbohydrates and vitamins found in eggs,green veggies,milk,fruits etc.Also,doctors’s prescribed vitamin tablets and protein powder should be taken on timely basis.
From now onwards,the mother should follow the correct sleeping pattern.However,it is recommended to sleep on left side from the starting of pregnancy.But if you have not followed this till now,it becomes essential for you to follow this seriously.Sleeping on left side is best during pregnancy because it increases the amount of blood and nutrients reaching the placenta of your baby.Also,it improves the blood circulation in mother’s body and provides blood flow to the baby,uterus and kidney in the best possible way.
For delivering the baby normally,it is very much essential to exercise from early basis.Exercising during last month of pregnancy wont help you to deliver the baby normally.So,Squatting,walking and other light exercises must be done to make your muscles strong and flexible for the easy delivery of baby.
